张翰ZHANG
HAN

Zhang Han is an accomplished young dancer with China Oriental Performing Arts Group and the performer who brings Ximeng — the young painter at the heart of The Journey — to life. His Ximeng is a youth whom history left blank for nine centuries, only to be given breath again on stage: from early, carefree strokes, through the exhaustion and resolve of grinding ink, to the final recognition with the blue-green landscape in The Entrance into the Painting. Rooted in the breath and movement of Chinese classical dance, his performance balances explosive energy with lyrical control, giving tangible warmth to the near-mythical claim that a boy of eighteen painted A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains. Since the production’s 2021 premiere he has performed the role more than five hundred times, refining its scale and nuance across domestic and international tours. Beyond The Journey, he contributes to the company’s repertory and is committed to passing on the traditions of Chinese classical dance.
