谢素豪XIE
SUHAO

Xie Suhao is an accomplished dancer with China Oriental Performing Arts Group and the performer of The Scroll Keeper in The Journey. The Scroll Keeper is a contemporary researcher — a custodian who opens the storage halls of the Palace Museum, unrolls A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains, and steps into the night when a young Ximeng painted it nine hundred years earlier. Xie Suhao’s performance is measured and restrained. Rather than impersonating an ancient figure, he embodies the quietest curiosity and reverence of a contemporary person before a work of art, becoming the gaze that links the old scroll to the present. His physicality blends the reserve of Chinese classical dance with the tension of contemporary dance — in the gestures of unrolling, watching and closing, he folds time back upon itself on stage. Since the production’s 2021 premiere he has performed the role more than five hundred times, refining its measure across domestic and international tours. Beyond The Journey, he contributes to the company’s repertory, using dance as a contemporary way of returning to Chinese cultural heritage.
